Hi just bought a 1998 Coachman 31'. Don't even have it home yet but have been doing a lot of research. I have the V-10 e-350 on 97 chassis and 51,000 mi.
What are my HP and torque specs? Is my chassis called a E-53? Getting different answers on many web sites. If anyone has any advise on upgrades, that would be great, because i think i have the least powerful V-10 made by ford.
1st thing i'm doing is changing plugs & wires Cap, rotor if it has them. Best brand/type of plugs? What is this "COP" in the sparkplug threads? Any advice would be greatly appreacied!!
Thanks, Steve

I have a coachman 1998 31ft class c motorhome with a V-10. I would check before changing plugs etc... The manufacture says do not change plugs until you reach 100,000 mile. Here is a website that you can find all the information that you are looking for www.f150online.com You can seacrh the site with questions and answers regarding the ford V-10.

I think you need to look at the documentation on this rig and count the number of cylinders. The V 10 didn't come out until '99 model year. There are no points, (computer driven COPD) or plug wires. I hope you didn't get taken! It's probably a V8 460 if you have the years right.

Checked the vin and engine code. this is from Wikipedia.
Quote:
The 1997 Econoline received an updated front end with a new grille that featured an oval cutout and new lower front bumper trim. Also new was an ergonomic dashboard layout containing dual airbags. Also introduced at this time were the new line of Triton V8 engines to replace the Windsors and the 460. The new lineup of engines featured a 4.2 L Essex V6, 4.6 L and 5.4 L Triton V8s, and a 6.8 L Triton V10. The 7.3 L diesel continued unchanged.

Then there you have it. It's not an F53. I was unclear if you had a class A or what. It's most likely the 275 hp engine. Don't do anything to it if it's running good. If it's missing, find out what's wrong and post the problem along with all the info you have on the engine. Vin # would help alot.

HP is 275 , max torque at 3250, max HP 4250, no plug wires, etc. you have COP (coil on plug). I'd change plugs do a search for blowing spark plugs. DON"T over torque the plugs. I'd look at a Banks trans command.
