Just replaced my passenger side mirror, thought I'd document the process here. I took lots of pictures, which the DW promptly deleted so she could take pictures of a horse we have for sale.
So..... I'll just walk you through.
Vehicle: 2002 F350 Lariat Crew cab 4WD 7.3L Diesel pickup
Part: Passenger side extending power mirror (non heated).
Purchased a
replacement mirror from Car Parts Wholesale which arrived quickly and with no drama.
R&R goes something like this:
1) Remove black rubber plugs from inside of door jamb to expose two of the four mounting bolts on back of the mirror. There are three plugs, only two are necessary to remove, the top one and the bottom one.
2) Remove small trim piece above inside door panel to expose other two mounting bolts. Just pry it off with a small scredriver and it will pop off. The bolts are behind a piece of sticky tape, easily peeled back and removed.
3) Pry power window/door lock switch plate up at the FRONT with a small screwdriver. It will pop up, and has a hook at the back that hooks under the door panel. Disconnect wire connectors on back of switches.
4) Remove one screw found under the switch plate securing door panel to the door.
5) Pry red reflector off of lower door panel.
6) Remove one screw found under the reflector securing door panel to the door.
7) Carefully lift door panel UP and OUT a short distance, then twist the light fixture behind the red reflector recess 1/4 turn to remove it from the door panel.
8) Disconnect the mirror's wiring connector at top of door, square connector with 4 wires.
9) Have a helper support it, then remove 4 mounting bolts from back of existing mirror, and remove it.
To install the new mirror, reverse the above process.
NOTES:
- The new mirror comes with a self-adhesive gasket you have to install. Peel off the back and carefully apply it to the new mirror. Easy, peasy.
- My mirror required a SQUARE connector, whereas the new one came with a ROUND connector. I had to cut off the original, and attach it to the new mirror. Wire colors match, so no big deal.
- The aftermarket mirror is an EXACT fit replacement, and looks identical to the original except does not have the metering marks on the lower arm to show you how far it is extended. I never used em anyway.
Any questions, just ask!
