Our a/c compressor is locked up. Has anybody replaced one? MH is a Georgie Boy Landau with Specific Climate Systems components other than the ones Ford supplied.
I am looking for any experienced advice before I tackle this one. I have the tools and home A/C experience. I have also rebuilt cars from the ground up, so wrenching is not a concern.

Are you sure the ac compressor isn't Ford? Mine was. It was leaking oil so I had it replaced. They had a tough time changing it out but they did manage.

I replaced the compressor on my 2000 V-10 two summers ago. It was straightforward job, remove belt, two A/C lines at compressor, install new compressor and recharge sysstem. I did have to get correct compressor from Ford dealer as none of the aftermarket units would fit. Ford unit did not have clutch, so had to order that separately and wait till it came in. Mine faied because of clutch and internal seizure. There was no metal in the system so did not have to change out any other parts.
There was no particular difficulty in doing the job and access was much easier than on a car.

Pirate, you are correct, compressor is OEM Ford.
Suppok, thanks for the first hand experience. It looks like they changed compressors in 2006 so I will have to confirm fit with aftermarket or go with OEM. Hopefully no particles floating in mine either.

My compressor went out at 7000 miles on my 2006 chassis in April of last year. Seal was leaking compressor oil. Shop ordered new compressor from Ford and put it in in 2-3 hours. Old compressor was OEM Ford factory installed.
Cost was about $690 installed. I paid out of pocket, but was reimbursed under warranty after warranty info not originally taken care by Motorhome dealer was updated with the help of the Ford dealer. Had 36 mo. warranty which ran out near the end of 2010 so was happy to get it all paid for.

I had to replace the a/c comp on my 2006 class A also due to leaking seal....Took it to the dealer and had it done under ext warranty...Paid 50.00 ded and all was fine.....
Dealer told me he sees alot of this type of prob on MH's and in his opinion it is due to lack of use..He does not see the frequency in autos, etc just MH's... He said use it routinely and it will last as it should.....His opinion, makes sense to me...
