According to the documentation I have been reading, Ford has moved the chassis mounted fuel filter on th e2011 F53 chassis to one that is integral to the fuel pump assembly located inside the gas tank. Anyone else out there who is more than a little disturbed about this change. Granted it's not something that needs to be changed very ofter, but having to drop the tank is a little much for most of us.

Have you crawled underneath and looked at the rail where the filter usually is? I can't believe they would be so stupid as to only have one filter where you can't get to it.

I think that's the automotive trend. The fuel filter in my Chrysler Town & Country is in the gas tank along with the fuel pump. I was told the filter only gets changed if and when the fuel pump needs to be replaced.

That only sounds like a good idea, if you say it real fast and don't take time to think about it too much. What if the clogged filter is the cause for the fuel pump to be compromised? Changing out a $ 10 in line filter sure is cheaper than having to drop a tank. Especially when it's one of these 80 gallon monsters. Seems like it would as least be nice if the MoHo companies would make some accommodations for easily changing out the pump assembly from the top. I guess the argument could be brought forward that they don't make anything else easy to get at, so why the fuel pump.
