For a long time I thought that I wanted a DP as well. All that torque sure is appealing. What really kept be away from them was that we didn't want anything longer than 32' and the choices there are slim. The Breeze came the closest, but Tiffin didn't make a very livable coach with that design. It's mostly a party coach and way to over priced.
The downside to diesels, as I see it, is the premium you have to pay for the fuel and the excessive cost for preventative maintenance. True the engines will last for almost forever, but after reading a lot of forums, they seem to have their share of problems. Most all of the new ones have the additional burdon of the urea emission systems as well.
In the end, it's what you want and feel comfortable with. If I was looking to move up to anything 35' or longer, I'd definitely want a diesel. Asking the Ford V10 to move that much coach is a lot. As far as fuel mileage, unless you are buying one of the smaller Benz based units, don't expect to get much more than 8 mpg - gas or diesel.
