2016 F53 cruise control turning off
I have had three occurrences (two of them just minutes apart) of my motorhome (Thor ACE 30.1 built on F53 chassis) cruise control turning off in use at highway speeds.
There have been about two dozen occurrences in these last six months. It took a while to recognize the pattern, but it seems to always be at the start of a grade (up) at highway speeds

The cruise control is cancelled by application of the brakes. More than one CC has been shut down by a brake switch that has a bad connection, is not adjusted properly, or is failing.
Climbing a grade shouldn't trigger anything, unless your transmission is downshifting and that's causing a malfunction.

If your speed drops more than 10 mph below the set point it releases by design.

When climbing a grade I lightly place my foot on the gas pedal. If cruse control disengages I maintain speed manually. If I end up pressing the gas pedal a lot to maintain speed I re-engage cruse control and as I pick up speed cruise control will eventually take over.
Have you tried Tow Haul when climbing?
Safe travels. JD

Yep this is probably it. I have noticed in tow haul its less likely. Basically the cruise control will only throttle up so fast, if the grade is too steep it won't apply enough throttle and drop to 10 mph below set speed at which point it disengages. With tow haul on it will down shift more aggressively keeping speed up on grade better, but it still may occur.
Sort of annoying but bottom line you need to take over manually if the grade is changing that much.

It's safer that way and easier in the drivetrain

Mine will disengage if I hit a decent bump. I account this to being a sensitive brake pedal. If I hit a decent bump I can put my foot under the brake pedal to stop it, or just reengage the cruise. I figure if you drive off the road it will shut off the gas so I leave it the way it is.

It is designed to disengage if you Drop below 10 mph of the set speed or hit a bump. The bump is in case you fall asleep and the motorhome runs off the road. According to the Ford factory folks at the Louisville show. (They designed it, so I guess they should know.)
