32 foot Hurricane engine cover soundproofing

Howdy. I discovered that my factory engine cover soundproofing had died. I removed it and replaced it with Matt66, which is just like dynamat but less costly. 80 mill thick butyl. Very nice quality. bought it on Amazon. ordered the 24 pack for about $35.

Here is my finished project:

Yes. I did that too. I also found that adding a dash cover helped a lot because the engine noise and wind noise came up through the dash or reflected off of it. Very nice custom dash covers are available online.

I had a 32' Hurricane that should have had this same treatment! However, word of caution: a friend of mine did what you did, (insulated his doghouse) but I guess he didn't use the right glue... 3 months later it started falling off, got on the manifold, and started an "almost" fire that melted some wiring and caused a big headache/expense. Make sure that your insulation is stuck on really really good!

The Matt66 is sticky stuff. Seems to stay put very well. Take your time when prepping the engine cover to completely remove the old material and really clean the fiberglass. Just like in painting, the prep is the most important.

The original factory foam stuff was completely falling off. Everyone should take a look at their factory insulation. They just used a foam product that died in the heat. It is now part of my pre-flight inspection.
