Well, in all my research regarding this engine, this is the first I have heard of the plug removal problem, and it sounds like a real problem. I ordered the tool today. I suppose I will tackle changing my plugs real soon as I have around 40K miles. Hopefully I won't have too many break.

Below is an interesting site related to V10 spark plug repair, they even have an emergency repair for motor homes that can be installed to allow you to drive a short distance to get to a repair shop. I don't have any connection with this shop nor have used their repairs, I just wanted to add the info to the discussion and maybe some will find the information useful or at least interesting reading, I know I did.

Thanks for the info but that is a different issue. Blown plugs and broken plugs are 2 different Ford issues.

Yep, I realize blown plugs and broken plugs are two different issues but "blown plugs" were mentioned twice in this thread so I thought it would be appropriate to add the info instead of starting a new thread.

Rohjah. I had not idea the broke plug issue until the post, and I thought I knew of almost all the known problems. Live and learn.

FWIW: After reading the Blownsparkplug link, I would agree with his recommendation of using 28 Ft-Lbs of torque and plated spark plugs.

Years ago I stopped using AC and Autolite spark plugs because they were not plated like Champion, NGK, Bosch, etc. I would find them rusted and difficult to remove, and in applications where they were "straight up" the rust flakes would fall into the threads and cylinders as they were removed unless compressed air was carefully used during removal.
