'98 or "99 no diff. Ford spec was changed from 5-30 to 5-20 to try and gain a MPG advantage. I can see no diff. I buy either Motocraft oil from Walmart which is a semi-syn.

IMO, 5-20 is for hybrids... Stick to the 5-30.. Dino or synth, doesnt matter..

The thing with oil weight is that the harder working and/or warmer your motor is, the thinner the oil gets and thus the lower your pressure gets.

I usually go with 20 when it's going to be below freezing for most of the time before the next change. Otherwise, 30 gives a bit more high temp. protection.

Not my idea, but based on the recommendations of a number of manufacturers.

When the v10's first came out the oil was spec's was 5w-30 then in late 2000 or early 2001 they revised the spec to 5w-20 for an infinitesimal increase in fuel mileage.

I continue to use Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-30 in our 2000 coach which now has 74k miles and will keep doing so.

Safe travels

Hi Santara, I found this on this form and it has changed my thoughts on motor oil after reading it.
