5 Star Tuner ?
I got my 5 star tuner loaded on my 34 ft 2000 Coachmen Santera and took it for a test drive out in the country roads. I wasn't to impressed. We went about 40 miles or so and then took it home . We went again this last week end to the Oregon coast for another test and it seemed to get better and better. Does the computer have to learn something over time and driving. We put about 400 miles on it and it is driving great now. The shifting was like you read on hear. What ever happened I am glad it did because I wasn't very happy the first test drive.

Mine worked as soon as I pulled away from their shop. Shifts so much better not too sure on gas mileage but much more drive able.

There is some limited "learning" with the 4R100 transmission. However I would not expect to see much different shifting over stock since shift feel is controlled through accumulator springs in the valve body assembly (actually the accumulator body). The solenoids are ON/OFF solenoids and not duty cycle style solenoids like in the torqshift in the 06 and newer chassis. The tune likely raises line pressures which should help with quicker shifts. That would be the only reason I would want a tuner so the line pressures are raised to encourage a faster shift to prevent slippage from accumulator style transmissions.

The first thing that I notice was the "quicker throttle response", Second was a much improve shifting. My son's comment when he used my coach, " Best handling and driving MH" we ever had.

Vince,
Have contacted Mike at 5-Star and am considering it. Would you elaborate on your comment "Improved shifting". Mike gave me some idea of what it would/could/might do but I'd like your impression as well.
Thanks,
TeJay

Prior to the Five Star the transmission would too readily downshift on small and hills and rises on the highway, and was very annoying. Now it holds the gear unless really needed to downshift. Much better drivability and not annoying.

Vince,
That's exactly what I'm hoping to achieve. I sometimes like keeping the cruise control on to rest my foot. I usually try to engage when we are going through level or slightly rolling hills. The transmission often has other ideas. If I take it off cruise I can sometimes maintain about 50-55 MPH without down shifting. When it downshifts and tries to maintain 60-62 MPG is sure hurts the fuel mileage. If I stay on cruise it will down shift and I think it shifts down to soon. I realize I can't have it my way all the time but having it more of the time would be nice.
Thanks,
TeJay

Looking at their dyno runs, they're adding fuel when at WOT, which is at least of part of what is providing the power gain. I assume that normal mixture is available (closed loop) when not at WOT... So other than shifting, you'd probably notice it most when climbing a hill or have that peddle on the floor.
The dyno gains are impressive for a naturally aspirated motor on 87 octane.

Agreed! It shifts through the gears so much smoother and improved performance in every way. Do it!

I just did the 5 Star Tune on my 2008 34 ft. allegro. Took first trip and I love it! More power, better shifting, and less downshifting on smaller hills, and when it does down shift, it only goes to 3400 rpms, no more 5,000 rpm screams. Well worth the money imho!!!!!!!
