If you have this Ford transmission, the 30K mile service requires an external filter change.

Ford gave me the wrong filter element for mine. Upon researching, I found what I believe to be a superior filter to Ford OEM (which actually comes from some European company I believe).

http://www.filtranllc.com/home/docum...rap-030508.pdf Filtran makes what appears to be a better filter element. Unfortunately, they are not available in typical parts houses.

They sent me to Transtar Industries, Inc. to buy mine. Transtar charged me around $13.00 per filter, about half the price of the toilet paper roll OEM filter element.

I have no stake in either company.

Sounds & looks good, only downside I could see is if transmission still under warranty and failed would using a non-Ford specified filter void the warranty.

The non-Ford filter does appear to be of superior quality though. I noticed Ford discontinued the external filter on their later model 5R110 5 speed transmissions, wonder why?
