I had my brake system flushed today at a Ford dealer that works on a lot of MH's. They are across the street from Lazy Days. While I was there I figured I'd have them change the oil. When I test drove the coach, I asked the mechanic how many quarts he put in. His answer was 7. After discussing this for awhile with three different mechanics ( all of which had different answers , 6, 6 1/2 and 7 ). Even a current spec sheet said 7 , but I showed them my manual and they looked up my chassis by Vin# on their computer ( both of which showed 6 ). They took 1 quart out.
Go figure. I've always used 6 with my 2001 and current 2007 ( 08 model coach). Which is what both manuals called for.
Bottom line for me is that I'd rather have 6 in an engine that calls for 7 rather than 7 in an engine that calls for 6.

I have a 1999 F-53 chassis with the 6.8L v-10 engine. The specs. call for 6qts. of oil with a new oil filter installed. I have the new round O-handle dipstick as opposed to the original T-handle.
With 6qts.of oil the O-handle dipstick reads 1/2qt. low. The reason is I have an auxilliary oil cooler installed. The engine came like this when new.
So folks check and see if you have an auxilliary oil cooler installed. It might just be the reason that you need a little bit more oil.

It was way over the full mark with the 7 qts. It's shows exactly full with 6. I know there will be some who say the dip stick may be wrong. This was true with my 2001. There was a TSB to change from the Tee handle to the circle handle. But that was then. There isn't any current TSB's that I know of nor does Ford as of today.

One of our company trucks, with V10 takes 7 full US quarts with filter change. Check your dip stick. If it just slightly over, then it will not hurt. Hit the road and enjoy your trip.

I have an o8 and it says 5.7 6 qts in owners manual so is the v10 the 5.7? Because it had some other engine options in the manual but not for oil capacity.

OK now I'm confused. I just went over the thread on years of MH's and my chassis has an 08 front on it. But my manual says 6 quarts (making it an 07 according to above). I changed the oil and 6 quarts filled it (leading to an 07 motor) So is it possible I have an early 08 with an 07 engine?

Your VIN should give you the year the engine was manufactured.

After reading, just remember that the V10 in the class C motorhome and the V10 in the F53 class A chassis have different capacity.

My owners manual says for the 5.7 6 but I have the larger one according to my "stickers" under the hood. How do I tell by the VIN?
I have driven it around with 6 and it's spot on the top of the full.
Thanks.

I dont think the vin will give you the answer. Use the owners manual cap. and you will be ok.

My '06 F350, built in late '05 takes 7 as per the manual, but looking at the Chilton for the '06-'07, it says to fill to the bottom of the hole in the dipstick. What that means in capacity? It depends on YOUR particular vehicle. There are disparities depending on that particular engine's application and is documented on several posts on the Ford Truck Enthusiasts site. It will depend on the oil pan that was used and for most likely road clearance for a particular chassis/suspension arrangement.

This discussion is for the F53 chassis. If you want to give your experience with the amount of oil used give the chassis year also.
I had the cruse recall done in Anchorage at a shop that does Ford truck warranty work. I decided to have the oil changed and asked how many quarts they put in and the shop manager said seven. I said it should be six. He was so adamant about it he put "Only six quarts used at customer request" on the receipt. 2000 chassis.
