97 Ford F53 V8 460 Upper/Lower Radiator Hoses

Been trying to locate the upper and lower radiator hoses for my 97 Ford F53 V8 460 MH. I ordered Gates 21668 (upper hose) and Gates 21875 (lower hose) but when I received them they were the wrong hoses. When I went to my local Ford dealer and their parts guy came up with Ford part number (8260) for the upper and (8286) for the lower hose. Each hose has a prefix and a suffix to this number. In my Ford Service Guide parts breakdown for the radiator hoses, on 7.5L engines, Class A motorhome it shows the upper hose as a 8B274 and the lower as a 8B273. I was able to see the Motorcraft number on the lower hose and it is "F6TD-8B273-AA" so I feel pretty confident that these are the numbers I need. I was unable to see the part number on the upper hose. Searching all over the internet I cannot come up with anything; I sure hope these 2 hoses are not obsolete part numbers.

I gave my Ford dealer the VIN and the schematic they gave me shows "8260" and "8286" numbers which I feel are wrong. I think the Class C MH's use these hoses. I want to order them but I don't think they are the correct ones. Anyone with any help or guidance on getting me on the right track to getting the correct hoses will be appreciated.

I went through pretty much the same problem locating the v-belts, the number I got off one of my v-belts my Ford dealer parts guy told me that that v-belt is not shown as being on my MH. He told me it was a good Motorcraft part number and that he could order it for me.

Thanks!

You can use any good hoses that will fit without rubbing anything. If your originally ones are steel reinforced make sure the retrofit ones are.

Bill, thanks for your input. I tried to take some additional pics of my hoses. In pic #1 is my lower radiator hose, it measures (pretty much straight) from the radiator to the 90 degree bend about 12-1/2", from the bend up to the oil filter/adapter cooler fitting it goes up about 6-1/2". In the second pic #2, I am showing Gates hose 21875 next to my lower radiator hose and it definitely isn't the same molded hose. In the 3rd. pic I showing both of these hoses, Gates #21668 (upper hose) only measures about 21" long (running a tape measure along the top side); roughly measuring the hose that is currently on my MH home it needs to at least 25" long. In the 4th pic. it shows Ford numbers (items #1 and #5) as 8B274 and 8B273. As I mentioned earlier on the Class C motorhomes, these hoses are shown as 8260 (upper) and 8286 (lower).

I do think that Gates hose #21909 that you mentioned that goes from the cooler to the water pump is correct.

I think this is really confusing and becoming a real SNAFU. I too was wanting to have the belts and hoses on board when I travel just in case; now I becoming more concerned about the hoses. I think you v-belt numbers are correct though.

I also agree as to the Ford F53 trucks and F53 Motorhome applications being different and requiring different parts etc.

Again thanks Bill

Note also that 8B274 and 8B273 are just the base number for 1994 F53 hoses and not the whole part number.
The base numbers for a 1997 F53 are 8260 for the Upper Radiator Hose and 8286 for the Lower Radiator Hose.

Also note that the lower hose in you image also looks like a 21875. Has someone changed the radiator to a different one?
Something does not look right in your photo.

Bill, as I mentioned earlier, the number I read off the actual lower radiator hose was Motorcraft F6TD-8B273-AA. You stated that 8B274 and 8B273 were the base number for 1994 F53 hoses do you think that there could be a possibility that 1994 Ford F53 application could apply here? Stranger things have happened.

I know when I was doing a lot of GM parts numbers related to Corvettes, etc. basically what I found out was that the line sheet may say one thing while something entirely different was used in a particular application, if a part was there and it would work they used it.

Bill, now that looks more like it for sure! I think you'll have to agree it's not Gates #21875. Any chance of any different info on the upper hose. I may try to track down 94 Ford F53 info, hopefully I'm on to something definite. Again thanks for your help.

My top radiator hose is a KM-1704; Manufacturer: MOTORCRAFT.
KM-1704 = E9TZ-8260-B

From another source:
E9TZ8260B--Top hose--F-SERIES--F53 (STRIPPED chassis) RV - all--KM-1704 8 Cyl. 7.5

Again thanks Bill for the additional info. I didn't have much luck trying to cross the above numbers in either Dayco or Gates. Somehow I think the key to everything is the "F Series, F53 Base Stripped Chassis, Motorhome" chain. Beginning to think I may have to try and find a flex heater hose with correct ID's, that's not what I want but it may be the only option available?, I hope not.

I wish I understood Ford's base number system better, I'm sure to Ford people it is really useful. Still trying to figure out the base numbers of 8B274 and 8B273 as compared to 8260 and 8286. I'm just getting further and further into the forest I think.

All Parts should have the same base number. I do not understand why the bottom radiator hose has a different base number between 1994 & 1997 for the same setup.

The part numbers are broke down something like this:
E9 = the first year the part was used. E = 1980's & 9 = the 9th year or 1989.
T = It was used on a Truck as in the F-series.
Z = It is a part number and not an engineering number.
-8260- = The base part number of the part.
B = Different letters or numbers in this place is for changes to the part. A "C" might fit a F150 and a "B" might fit a F53.

Are you saying that the Gates # 21668 does not fit for the upper hose either?

Bill, I know everything appears, by catalog applications, that the 21668 is correct but when I held it up in position next to the original hose it to me appears that the overall length is going to be short about 4-5". That's something I don't want to find out while travelling around the country. I'll going to go back out to the MH and crawl under it again to see, I just don't have a good feeling about these hoses so far. Too many dead ends. I'm also planning on going to my local dealer again tomorrow, the parts guy there is very knowledgeable and hopefully he can get me straightened out.
