I have a 2001 Pace Arrow on a Ford chassis. The ABS light has been on for some time. I have it indoors for a while and woud like to repair it. 2001(2000) Ford chassis is not OBD II but I can reset the code. As soon as the key is turned on again the light comes back on. Any idea where to start and what to look for will be apreciated.

Thanks

The Ford chassis is notorious for dirty ABS sensors. Often just dusting them with a clean rag is all that is required. Chatter bumps seem to shake off brake dust and cause mine to fault on occasion.

Yours should be OBD II, my 1999 F53 V10 is. Have you moved the motor home since the ABS light came on? When I started my motor home to leave for Arizona after it had sat for 4 months, the ABS light came on. As I drove away it went off and hasn't come back on.

Thanks for the replies. I cleaned the front sensors, they were covered with junk. I have not driven the MH yet but after clearing the code the light went off and came back on rite away. Are there other sensors besides the front wheels?

I believe the Ford engines in pre 2002 chassis are not OBDII, you can clear codes and a few other things but most tests are not accurate.

Thanks

There is a sensor on the Differential 'Pumpkin'. On my '99 it takes a 13mm socket to remove one bolt, and the unit lifts right out. To remove the wiring, there are tabs on both sides that hold the wiring connection together.
Cleaning this on mine helped once, then it failed again. The manager at NAPA says they "sell a lot of these". $16 including tax, and no more light problems.
Good Luck on yours!

I have a Scanguage II connected to the OBD II connector on my 1999 F53 chassis. I don't think it would work if it weren't OBD II. I can get all of the readings - temps, voltages, speed etc. I can also rad and clear codes.

I have an Innova brand OBDII scanner. I spoke with the manufacturer and was told the MH chassis(Ford) was not actuly OBD II compliant. I believe he said starting in 2002 they are. Anyway mine reads RPM and temps etc but does not read all the codes or pin point specific faults. I was also told the readings I am getting may or may not be accurate.

Replaced the sensor on the rear diff and after a short drive the light is out and all is good.
Thanks for all the help.

PS John my code reader(OBDII) identified my 2001 system as OBDI.

Glad to hear your ABS problem is fixed!

I spoke to the folks at Linear Logic (ScanGuage II manufacturer) before I bought mine and they said that as long as the F-53 chasis was manufactured in 1999 or later, they were ODB II. I have been able to read and clear all codes thrown, and they have been accurate so far.

As for using ODBII for the ABS codes, although the ABS code reades connect to the ODBII port, most scan guages will not read them, as they use a separate channel for the ABS data. Linear Logic confirmed that you cannot read or clear the ABS codes using the ScanGauge II (on any vehicle). However there are several scan tools specifically for ABS out there for around $150.
