I have a 1999 F53 with a reported 75 gal fuel tank. I've read (in other forums) that the 75 gal reported by Ford is not accurate. Some have said as much as 100 gals? Can anyone confirm/deny the actual capacity of these "75 gal tanks"?

I have found the 75 gallons to be very accurate. The low fuel warning light comes on with 10% (7.5 gallons) left too, as designed.

The exterior of the tank is close to 100 gallons if you measure it. There's about 25 gallons of airspace when it's full.

I guess that explains it, thanks Tim.

What's the point of that? I understand a little air, but 25 gallons?

My workhorse chasis has a "75" gallon tank. The lite comes on when I have about 15 plus/minus gallons left. I had the lite come on the last time I used it and it took about 62 gallons. I do suspect that I can put a bit more than 75 gallons but cannot or do not want to be in a position to prove it.

I can get very inconsistant fill ups and MPGs. If there is a 25 gallon air space, that explains why, especially if the gas station cement is not level.
But I do use several tank fill ups to measure MPG.
