Air Cleaner/filter

Has anyone enlarged the opening of the box on 460 in C chassis? I have 3" exhaust all the way back. Eliminated the restrictive system. It is hard to see how it can get in enough air through the two little holes in the inlet side of box. It would seem too big an opening would not hurt.

As far as air in - enlarge to what ever size fits - as long as the air is properly filtered. For exhaust - caution as that engine, like most 4 stroke engines does need some restriction on flow for proper cylinder scavenging and operation. I made that expensive mistake on a 460 powered F350 years ago and ended up with poorer gas mileage and performance vs the OEM exhaust.

Thanks IC2 for confirming my thoughts. I cant leave it (the intake piece) completely off as there is a hose stuck in it. I was thinking of cutting it off right after the hose. Maybe running a piece of dryer hose to where it could get fresher air.

I would try to find something a bit more robust then dryer hose plus, if it is a computer controlled engine, pull the ground wire battery connection for at least a half hour so that computer will learn the new inlet air parameters. If nothing else, it will sound better

Thanks IC2. Yes dryer hose is pretty flimsy. Just got back from a short 200 round trip. I wished I had just pulled off the snout and let it hang there.
Would love K/N type but Santa cleaned me out. Should I disconnect ground after any alteration?
