Just purchased a 2010 Gulf Stream gas motor home. The rear overhang seems low and presents a challenge to get in my driveway. My driveway has a 5 degree slope up. I can get it in but I need to open the rear cargo doors to clear the driveway. I thought may be adding rear air bags would help to raise the rear when backing up my driveway. Have anyone installed helper airbags on your Ford chassis motor home?

They will help, but you can only get about 1 1/2" of lift. If that is enough they would be a good thing to install. I have them front and rear and it has made a big difference in the handling.

! 1/2" would be an improvement. I now need to find out if it is something I can install or do I need to get someone to do it. John, did you use Air Lift air springs?

You can install them yourself only problem maybe drilling holes into the chassis frame for mounting mounting bracket for bags. There maybe a angle iron at top of wheel well for reinforcement of wall but that can be removed and cut to fit in bracket. After cutting angle iron remounted two pieces of angle iron both sides of bracket. Thats what I had to do on Newmar coach.
I placed four bags all four wheel locations and installed compressor in one of the compartments with valve controls and main control under dash.
Needed to lift coach box up to clear dragging of rear duels rubbing top of wheel well when leaning passenger side.
Ford dealer said they couldn't be installed because of angle iron.

007, your profile identifies a Workhorse chassis and you seemed to talk about a
ford chassis. did you install the air bags on a Ford or a Workhorse?

novi2some:

I installed airbags on front and rear of our current coach, which is on a 22,000lb GVWR Ford F-53 chassis. Firestone RideRite at the time was the only company that had bags to fit that particular 2008 chassis, AirLift may have them now.

I bought them with the intention of installing them myself (like I had done with our previous coach), but then learned I would have to drill 3 of the 4 holes per side, that plus some other complications (like not having a level surface long enough for the new coach) made me decide to have them installed. We did not have to cut the angle iron "007" discussed, but the brackets do touch it.

I had the installer just install the bags themselves, I wired and plumbed the controller, pump, etc prior to bringing it in so all they had to do was connect the airlines to the bags. For your purposes, you may not need a controller, we use it for "stealth leveling".

LUV2GO:
Thanks. I will probably get them installed. How much can you raise the motor home with the air bags?

Same as others have stated, about 1 1/2" with 100PSI in them.
