Alternator not charging house battery

2005 Winnebago Aspect. The alternator is not charging the house batteries. I have been trying to trace the signal coming from the Ford, to no avail. The Winnebago diagrams are not clear, at least not to me. Anybody familiar with this particular circuit, please help.

Did it ever charge the house batteries?

Not all RV alternators charge the house batteries. Mine, for example, does not.

You might want to check the battery isolator as well.

While the images and videos are for a Class A Winnebago, this post might help.

In that year, it has a factory charging system. If it charges the start battery, there is nothing wrong with the alternator.

You should follow this post to find out why your dose not.

It has been standard equipment since probably the 70s or 80s.

The chassis manufactures include high output alternators on motor home chassis for this reason.

There are hundreds of posts about isolator relays ( Solenoids ) failing, on this site.

They are the weak link in the "chassis to house" charging system.

Fortunately the are relatively cheap and easy to replace.

Thanks for all your helpful suggestions. Indeed it was the solenoid, which picked up OK, but did not connect the 2 batteries. Problem solved, except now I noticed a rather fast discharge of the house batteries, which could or could not be a related issue. In addition I noticed an electrical smell when charging the batteries. I'll measure the discharge current and hopefully find out where it goes.

Actually it is a poor design to have the solenoid continuously energized while the ignition is on. There's got to be a better way.
