The 500 RPM drop when easing off the throttle in 3rd gear may be the torque converter locking up again.

Trans ratios stay the same, they don't change. The only thing that's changed is your final drive ratio, so you have to use a lower trans gear to pull a grade. You're still going the same speed, just in a different gear with lower RPMs....

What ever it is doing, it works good and I like the way it performs on this coach.
here's the spec for ford 158 wb..
they rate the HP at 3900 rpms.... where as before it was 4750
the rear end gear ratio is still the same..
on one of my older coaches when I went to the 22.5s ... I had Baca's differential in vegas change out my gears to 4:88....

the 22.5's that come on ford chassis are taller tire and they get a 5:38 gear
also note that ford says the 16k chassis can tow 7000 lbs

Yes, I asked Newmar to build my 2901 (29' 11") with 2 A/Cs and the front is a 15K BTU heat pump/AC and rear a 13.5K BTU with a 50 Amp. electrical system and 5.5 KW Onan. Since, we live in "Hell Hot" SW USA I wanted a system that could cool the RV in 15 to 20 minutes when it was 105+ outside and I was returning to the RV in the PM. The great thing about having Newmar build your RV is they will make changes that you ask for while it is being built like a 10 CuFt refig w/ice maker instead of 8 CuFt standard, I had them run 1" conduits for wiring needed to add a 2.8 KW Magnum inverter/charger and solar panels, and a 20.5 K chassis instead of the std 18K chassis. I had to wait 4 months for it to be built but I got what I wanted. They also gave me a buffet with cabinets for a computer work center and stand alone table instead of the dinnete, and I had them make changes to the upholstery and wall paper colors and add extra windows.
