Took the motorhome in for service on the Ford V-10 at 8am. By 9:30 problem found, 2 new coil over plug installed, finished at 11:00am took it for a test run for 40 miles, everything seems back to normal.

Codes showed #3 and #8 had misfired. Mechanic took out the sparkplugs and cleaned them, they showed signs of misfiring. Took out coil-over-plug from #3 and installed it on #5 and took out #8 coil-over-plug and installed it on #10 applying die-electric grease. Ran the engine for 15 minutes and then tested for voltage and he recommended two new coils. Fingers crossed hope this solves it.

Labor cost 1˝ hours $75.00 per hour. Parts coils $66.84 ea with tax fees and shop supplies came to a total of $269.42

Some of the early models of V10 had problems with then spark plug wires being overheated by the run location near the headers. Sounds like under load (more heat) the engine would be affected. Not sure if this would show up on the diagnostic pull. Just my two cents

Bob and Pat,

Very nice Spartan trailer. Would you please tell me the rim size so I may order some for my trailer?

All the best,

Earl

THANKS for posting the end result!!!
too often there are posts about problems and the OP doesn't post what the final result was. It is often very helpfull to know what happened so when the rest of us are faced with that problem we can see how someone elses problem was resolved.

Took the motorhome for a trip to Fort Lauderdale from Haines City Florida. The motorhome ran well and the problem is gone. MPG on one check 133 miles north bound on I-95 used 15.266 gal 8.71 MPG average speed 62mph.

on the trip down from Michigan
188.255 gal 1,237.8 miles, 6.575 MPG overall. I used to average 7 to 7.5

Earl,
Re: Spartan Trailer,
they are 15" 5 lug 5 1/2 circle with a large 4" hole center hub. they are hard to find. some older ford trucks use this pattern.

This is the information from my Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law who own and did the restoration on the Spartan trailer.
