What is the best transmission oil to use on a 2011 Canyon Star Ford F53 V10 F450? The transmission is the 5r110w transmission, I think.
Thanks for any help.

The only oil to use is Mercon SP. At least that is what my 2008 manual says. It also says Mercon V can be used in the power steering. I bought a quart of each from Ford a couple of years ago, used a bit of the SP and none of the V.

MERCONŽ LV Service for 5R110W Automatic Transmissions Approved
Beginning immediately ALL previous 5R110W automatic transmissions (2003 to 2008 MY) can be serviced with MERCONŽ LV
automatic transmission fluid in place of MERCONŽ SP. This will result in significant complexity reduction for customers using 5R110W
automatic transmissions which can now all be serviced with MERCONŽ LV ATF (previously only 2009 /10 MY 5R110W automatic
transmissions were serviced with MERCONŽ LV). This pertains to topoff as well as fluid replacement. Mixing of MERCONŽ LV and
MERCONŽ SP in the 5R110W transmission is acceptable.
Extensive testing has been performed to ensure there are no functional or durability concerns with the use of MERCONŽ LV ATF in the
5R110W automatic transmission.
Vehicles affected are F-Series Super Duty trucks (including chassis cab) (2003-08), Excursion (2003-05), F-53 Motorhome (2006-08),
Low Cab Forward (2006-08) and E-Series (2004-08) with 5R110W automatic transmissions.
Note: Vehicles equipped with the 6R (2008 and prior) and 6HP26 automatic transmissions still must be serviced with MERCONŽ SP.
This includes V8 Explorer/Mountaineer (2006-08), Expedition (2006-08) and Navigator (2005-08).
Motorcraft MERCONŽ LV is now available in three sizes:
Part Number XT-10-QLVC -- 1 quart
Part Number XT-10-DLV -- 55 gallon drum
Part Number XT-10-BLV -- Bulk
Further information can be found in the on-line Automatic Transmission Fluid Chart or SSM #21114, accessible from the PTS Home
Page. .

Thanks for that update, Pirate Ford has introduced the successor to SP and it is good to know I can mix it. The OP's chassis should be 2010 or 2011 depending on when he bought it so he should use only the LV.
