Bigger Ford RV chassis' in the future?
Ford is supposed to start making their bigger 2 ton trucks (F-650 & F-750)them selves again (in Avon Ohio I heard)
there is a possibility that we might see Ford make em a bit bigger than they do now. ??
If this is the sort of thing you might want a few years down the road an email or 2 wouldn't hurt.

I would much rather see a diesel engine in the same F53 chassis than a larger, heavier chassis being pulled by a gas engine.

These F-650s and F-750 have the 6.7L Ford diesel (& I think the 8.3L Cummins diesel) as options.

I have always wondered by the F650 & F750 are not used in the Super C market.

I would like to see Ford build a rear engine chassis similar to the workhorse UFO with a gas or diesel engine option and maybe even include air suspension to the chassis.
Just wishful thinking...

The F53 goes up to 26,000lb GVWR. That is equal to the F650 and the max rating for many state's basic driver's license.

The F750 has a GVWR up to 37,000lb, so that is Diesel Pusher territory.
A Front Engine Diesel (FRED) has always been available (from Freightliner) but there are currently no RV makers interested.

So while a Diesel in the F53 or a Ford MDT chassis for an RV might sound like a good idea, I doubt there are any coming.
Safe travels

I cant see Ford doing it either, not as long as theres a market as big as it is for the multi use F53.
They put a rear engine in & it will only be an RV. Ford probably wont take that chance.
Now if was something 95% of the public somehow could afford, maybe yes. Motor homes are in the stick & brick house price range, been like that for years & if the kids coming up today are in their right minds, that class c or a not in their plans.

I don't like the idea of a diesel in the same chassis as weight will effect the GVW.I would rather see a heavier chassis with a diesel.

I'm with Neil on this one. Even though Ford is the only game in town unless they could use the chassis for other applications I don't think they will accept the risk. They have pushed the F53 GCWR up to 30K but I think they might be at the limit for the power train and brakes.
Also I recall reading something a while back about when Ford sold off their Class 8 (B series) truck line to Freightliner in 1996 which included a 10-year non-compete agreement. Fast forward 10 years to 2007 and the economy was tanking, particularly for the Big 3, (GM, Chrysler and Ford), which I suspect would be the reason why we haven't seen anything from Ford as yet. Freightliner does have a front engine diesel chassis but very few coach builders are using it. With limited demand Ford probably won't take the risk.

Ford has the "hardware" now to do a F53 FRED. They have the 6.7 L in the F350 Super Duty @ 440hp and 880 torque, and it is only an $8400 option. It's a natural for a F53 FRED if they decide to do it, would likely put a big dent in the lower end DP market.

I dont know what RV name brand it was I've seen, but Ford is producing a C class chassis that looks like a pickup cab with the diesel. Racer friend of ours had one of those, stated it rode like a tank, so traded it in & got a super C on the International chassis & is happy now.
That Ford chassis must have been a 550 or 650.

Ford has rated the V10 for up to 37,000 GVW in the F650 and F750 chassis and they have a 6 speed transmission. I would like that transmission as an aftermarket upgrade because in the Rocky Mountains another gear between 4th and OD would be nice.
At the end of Oct. heading W/B on I-40 on the grade from Weatherford, OK to Amarillo there was a headwind and gradual upgrade. My RV could not maintain 62 MPH and would not allow 4th gear unless WOT. So I could shift to 3rd and run at 50 MPH and nearly 5,000 RPM or accelerate to a higher speed where the RPM power range would maintain my speed. I found that 72-73 mph worked in OD (Tow Haul engaged) and 2,900 RPM and 5.6 MPG. I would have been nice to be able to have a way to make the transmission use 4th at say 70% of the throttle versus only WOT (or it upshifts to OD). The driving conditions continued until Kingman, AZ.
