I was able to let the engine oil drain via a long funnel into the pan. When it came to the filter, oil went all over the front axel and ground. What a mess. While I was at it, I installed a Fumoto valve. At least next time the oil drain will be easier and less chance of a spill. I don't know what to do about the filter?
Suggestions?

Using one of those rectangular oil pans that doubles as a container, I use the levelers raise the front up somewhat setting jack stands under the side frame rails on either side. I then let the oil pan rest on the axle and drag link then remove drain plug. After oil drained I replace the plug then slide the container left under the filter and remove it. Sometimes a bit will spill on the track bar and axle, but not that much.

On my first oil change , I had a neighbor do it.He was between jobs and needed money.
He raised the coach with the help of the new installed 4-20-07 QUADRA BIG FOOT levelers the tall 21 inch lifts. Then he lay a pan across the axle and stabilizer bar then remove the oil plug slowly. When it got half way full he put back in the plug. Then he lower the pan carefully not to spill a drop and dump into a 5 gallon bucket.. He this for the second time and then he tighten the bolt . Then he dump what remaining oil into the bucket. He when to the oil filter with one of those new style gripper oil filter claw they really hooks in and don't slip to remove it . He place the black 6 qt oil pan under it real close almost touching it and slowly remove the oil filter and just let it run over into the pan . After about a minute or two he then remove it completly without fliping it over and place it into the oil pan and just let it finish draining from the spinner. Never a drop ever hit the axle or ground.
He had this all done in just over a half hour and place in only 6 qts and I told him to add another 1/3 of the 7 qts for good measure . The dealer and also Ford advice me to do that because I tow an enclosed car trailer 24 foot full of extreme toys. I was really impress how easly and neet the job was. I watch the whole time.

LVJ58's system is the same as I use and it has worked perfectly for several years. I do punch a hole in the end of the filter to let it drain before unscrewing it. Just makes it a little easier to handle.

Put pan on top of axle and steering stabilizer to drain oil then slide it across to change filter. No modifications and no mess yet.

I've had two oil changes so far and you make me glad I took it to the Ford dealer for the oil change. No fuss, no mess.

My last oil change was $129.00 at the RV dealer. The local Ford truck dealer "refuses" to work on RVs and Ford lets them get away with it!

If my cars and truck was as easy to change the oil and service as my motor home is, I would be doing them myself. They aren't, so they go to the service station. I do the motor home and it is easy, but it is a gasser.

My oil change, filter and grease was about $85 Canadian at the local Ford dealer and they have no problem working on MH's.

My last oil change, filter and lube cost me
$23......yes you might sweat a little if you live in Fl, but at least you know it was done

Many years ago I owned a garage and changed and greased cars, with all the equipment,the car or truck in the air (hoist)convinced me that there were cleaner jobs in the world, never got under another vehicle.

after loosening the filter a little, i put a walmart plastic bag over the filter and remove it, always keeping it upright..the bag catches the oil dripping from the filter base..jim..
