Anyone changed the fuel filter? I have a 2008 Ford chassis and I have located the fuel filter on the rail, know that I need a removal tool to release the fuel lines from the filter, and realize I have to release the fuel pressure to keep from making a mess. It's how to do step 3 (release pressure) that I am unsure of. I tnink there a a few options, but am not sure of the best aooroach. Thoughts?

I'M interested in this as well however the book says its not needed until 30,000 miles, unless of course you need to do it sooner.

If the engine is cold and its been parked for a few days, there is little to no pressure in the fuel line.

The 460's used to have a schrader valve on the fuel rail for testing fuel pressure but the newer Fords do not since they did away with fuel pressure regulators, it all bleeds back to tank eventually.

You will need some shop towels to catch what is in the filter, it will leak out when you remove the fittings. Many of the newer ones no longer need the duckbill tool, the release is on the fitting.

I changed mine a while ago. If I remember right, I had the key off (duh) and removed the gas cap to relieve the tank pressure. Then I used the tool to disconnect the filter.

Same here, when I released the pressure I didn't get more than a few drops.

Most manufactures recommend 30,000 miles between changes. Since I get +/-8 MPG, which is 1/3 of the mileage but the same amount of fuel, I change mine every 10,000 miles. It is cheap and it helps keep one from getting stranded. Your call.........

Today I changed my fuel filter in my 2002 Fleetwood Fiesta (2001 F53 chassis. The hardest part of the changeout was getting the filter out of the clip that holds it to the frame. You need a special tool to release the ends of the filter from the hoses, also.
