The idea to start a Poll regarding Jim's fix is the matter at hand, which was Dunner's idea. No one here will ever take the credit away from Mr. McKindley for HIS great mod to the F53 chassis.....never.

I PM'd him to check-in.
I'd guess he'd like to see the results of his fix.

Shame on you jmckinley, for knocking Ford out of thousands of dollars, when it could have been the owners of F53 chassis, carrying them in to a Ford dealership complaining about the bad handling & then Ford do the mod & give them a big fat bill to pay.
Yes, shame on you, after Ford Motor Company went to all the trouble of engineering in that ill handling chassis set up which took so little to correct.

My hats off to you Sir for such a small great idea that does so much .

Ford did a great job engineering the chassis for a truck. That extra hole was for a Z bracket that does absolutely nothing for vertical stress on the bolt like the top Z bracket does. That's why they don't use it in later models. Little did Ford know that it could be used to reduce sway in a motor home. Thanks John . We win . I just hope someone doesn't find a way to make it illegal or tax it.

Well this is probably the third time I have referred to John McKindley as Jim :faceplam: I guess this senile old man can't remember the name John.

Signed, John Lyon

Can you guys confirm - here's a look at the stock configuration of my 99 F53.
There are two holes in the sway bar, the "fix" is to swap the location? Like my rear, there is the arm that presses on the sway bar and then another assembly coming off of it, connecting to the remaining sway bar hole:

Correct, exact same as my '99. Just remove those Z brackets and move links to the rear hole on front and back. I reversed and replaced the Z brackets. Apparently Ford thought those Z brackets were necessary in the earlier years. However, in later years they quit using them. No one has reported problems not using them.

Ordered my Hellwig links today. Now I have a (possibly dumb) question: Why would I want to force fit the Ford bushings into the Hellwig links as some previous posters have suggested?

Because the Ford bolts don't go into the Hellwig sleeves. Use the Hellwig rubber bushings with the Ford sleeves.

Here's a photo of mine. Doing this modification sets the sway bar to a much more vertical position. The Z-brackets can't be re-used as they'd hit the links...
