Cruisin' thru New Hampshire on the "back roads". I smell anti-freeze, temp gauge looks OK, then steam comes up thru the
floor driver side. Off to the side, get everyone out. start looking, sure enough
anti-freeze over everywhere.
Call ERS GoodSam, 1-1/2 hours later mechanic shows up. We start to remove the doghouse and he says, "let me check something". Short time later a knock on the floor, " Stop taking off the doghouse .... you arenot gonna believe this !!"
Up he comes with the upper Radiator hose clamp .... with the keeper still in place !!
How this lasted 17,000 plus miles I'll never know, should have blown off long ago !!....
So, 1 clamp, 5 gallens of antifreeze and $63.00
later I'm back on the road.
Whuda Thunkit ???

I think Ford puts cheap clamps on there hoses. I had the same problem fortunately I caught it before going on a trip.
Good to hear it didnt cost you to much.

Yes, there have been reports of these brackets not holding, unfortunatly.
I had put an additional one on the bottom hose at the radiator.

WOW I can't believe what I am reading. What is a keeper? Is it that stupid wire looking wrap they use on ford cars for the radiator? I am going to check and see if I can add a flat metal hose clamp and put it on the bootm hase and also if room permit also on the top.2006 Hurricame Ford v-10 with 362 hp/5 speed on F-53 chassis.

The keeper is a little metal or plastic clip that keps the spring clamp open so it can be slid over the hose. Once the hose is attached to the radiator and the clamp is slid into place the assembler is supposed to remove the keeper so the clamp grips the hose.
More common than the keeper still on the clamp is a clamp that's lost some or all of it's tension from having the keeper in place for months before the clamp is installed.

I replaced all my hose clamps the first year I had my coach,(new). I found anti freeze seeping down the main large radiator hose. The clamp was cracked in two pieces. Then I replaced all of them with stainless screw type. Two others had cracks in them also. Then I found out the Ford dealers had a TBO which instructed them to replace clamps free, if a customer complained of coolant loss. The original clamps are total junk and Ford quality control should have tested them before using.

George, the clamps are flat spring steel with two "ears" That are held with a clip. When the clpip is removed the unit tightens.
Somebody never released the clip on the top hose.
Best regards, Clyde
