Crappy picture but you get the idea. My outside diameter was 3.5" before cutting and 6" under the coach, the exhaust was only 3" in diameter. Make sure you measure right

Thanks again, Johnny. Our existing pipe is 3.5" for about 8" long, then narrows under the coach. I "assume" it narrows to 3" but I didn't measure the circumference to verify. I'd prefer to find something that would fit over the existing and not have to be cut...or else take it to a shop and let a pro do the cutting, haha. I appreciate the pic very much.

Sarah, you are right from 3.5" narrowing to 3" Outside diameter so you will need a tip that is 3" Inside diameter.

I have used a reciprocating saw with an appropriate blade and it went like a hot knife into butter!

if you go to any exhaust shop, they will fix you up for 20$.

I went with the Gibson Stainless Steel 18" exhaust extension. I had originally painted the existing exhaust pipe with rust converter and then black. I wasn't satisfied with the look so then went with the stainless steel. Got mine from Summit Racing online. It's 3" inlet, 3.5" outlet and I cut off about 3"-4" of the existing exhaust pipe (although I didn't need to, I just didn't want the existing pipe to show inside the new one).

I've got a stainless steel 1 1/2" ID generator exhaust extension ordered. It's made by Leisure Time and sold by camping World.

I will want to know how well the stainless extension from Summit does. The one I got from Summit, corroded within a year.

Chrome tip

We put a chrome tip on both our engine exhaust and our generator exhaust. We have done that on all of our previous rigs. They look real clean.

You sure that you didn't get a Chrome plated one? 100% T-304 polished Stainless Steel does not rust under ordinary circumstances.

OK, thanks for the heads up-I'll keep an eye on it. I've only had mine on for about a month and a half and 500-600 miles. If I have a problem with it I'll let Summit and Gibson know about it. Gibson will want to know about any quality control issues that they might have.

If its the T-304 Stainless Steel there should not ever be a problem with it under the usage that we put it to.

Whoops-went back and read your first post and I see that you did say that you'd gotten the stainless steel one.

Sarah - I finally got to the coach to get a current photo of the chrome extension. This is how it looks most of the time. I haven't polished it since the start of 2014's season. The other photo shows how it's attached.

They do look pretty when polished, but I don't like the upkeep on them, so I very much doubt our next coach will have one (unless it comes w/it).

Thanks, Lori. It appears that yours is welded on. That is the exact same heat shield that we have, with the u-bolt bracket on the tailpipe. I'm still looking but it's not a high priority item!! I appreciate everyone's photos and information.

If I keep it polished, it'd look as nice as those dually wheel rims. Those things are SO easy to keep shiny with no effort at all. Wonder if ALCOA makes tail pipe extensions?
