Cold engine idle problem

When starting the engine in our National Seabreeze, the engine runs at a fast idle as it should, but only for a few minutes. Then the engine will almost die and return to its normal fast idle. This will happen repeatedly until the engine reaches normal operating temperature then it idles ok.
If driving when cold and come to a stop, the engine will die at times.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The vehicle has less than 10,000 miles onit. Thanks, Jay

Which Engine? It helps to know if it is Gas or Diesel Ford or Chev, Cummins or Cat Etc.
