Dash AC Keeping Up?

When it is 80 degrees outside our dash AC blows nice frigid air. Less so when 90 out (cool air) and by the time it is 100+ outside it is blowing warm air. I know about the 20 degree cooling thing (ACs can only lower then temperature of the air they are cooling by about 20 degrees). But when we change the setting from "AC" to "Max" in the hot dessert, which I think is supposed to close off outside air and cool the inside air, there is no noticeable change to the warm air blowing out of the dash. Shouldn't there be? Do we need service?

When you have the dash unit set to A/C at it's coldest setting , there may still be some coolant flow through the heater core , warming the dash .
Switching to Max A/C ( recirculate ) should shut off coolant flow through the core completely .
You may have an issue with the amount of refrigerant in the A/C system , but the operation of the coolant flow control valve needs to be checked too.

Many owners have installed a manual shut off in the heater hose to aide the A/C system operation.

Thanks Skip. Who does these kinds of checks on a motorhome? Ford? A truck repair facility? Other?

two or four possibilities: 1) Not allowing enough time? (Even in Max (recirc) you need to allow time for inside (return) temp to come down enough to start lowering discharge temp; 2) Slightly low on Refrigerant (should be able to keep COIL Flooded w/ liquid over its entire surface area of coil; 3) Slight VACUUM LOSS to controls, (e.g. cracked hose?) preventing VENT DOOR from closing completely when MAX selected?; 4) COMBINATION of above? LUCK to ya :-)

Our 74 Malibu 350 had a vacuum operated heater valve; had to replace that valve every Fall to restore heat, or no water flow; never made two years on 1 valve, but they failed in closed position

Since this is a chassis issue, not a "house" issue, I'd definitely go to an independent truck repair facility specializing in your brand of chassis. Second choice would be a Ford shop.
