On our neweky purchased 1999 Alegro Bay with a V10 the dash heat does not get hot enough. The engine temp gauge shows the engine is cool. Is this normal with the V10. I need to check if the temp control valve is opening all the way. Where is it located?

The valve is typically located in line with the heater core hose and accessible under the dog house or from the hood opening. This maybe either a 5/8" or 3/4" hose. The in-line valve should have a vacuum line attached to it and maybe secured by 2 hose screw clamps. The valve is usually installed by the OEM rather than the chassis builder.

The heater controls on my rig are also vacuum operated so you may also want to check to see if that's not the case on your as well. The modular plug may come loose on the back of the control.

If the engine stays "cool" a new thermostat may be required. Proper engine temp is 180 to 200. If the engine is cold you will be also.

Thats it thermostat is bad, missing, or wrong temp range. A lot of the new thermostates go into failsafe and open completely when bad. It does not matter how far that valve opens if the water is not hot. Might be a good time to flush the coolant whille you have the system open

Great point I didn't realize they fail safe to open. Flushing the coolant and replacing some hoses just as a precaution are on the list of things to do next week.
