Differential Pinion Seal

So on our recent 4200 mile trip when I got under the coach to check the bolts on the trac bar I made and installed prior to the trip I found my differential pinion seal leaking, kept an eye on it during trip now to replace.

Not sure which diff I have but it has rear aluminum cover based on what I have seen in trac bar thread I think it is a Dana.

So does anyone have any experience with this?

In my younger days worked on some auto diffs and had crush collar to set preload on pinion bearings.

Is this unit just remove replace seal torque to specs?

Have not removed drive shaft yet but feel no slop in bearings.

Unit info in signature.

Just info. Was doing some driveshaft info for another blogger and noticed the yoke/pinion shaft nut torque was 620 to 839 FT LBS depending on what model Dana you have.

I have a DANA 80 rear axle in my MH that has the finned aluminum cover in the back. I changed the pinion seal a couple of years ago. The pinion nut torque spec was around 460 foot pounds. I had to borrow a 500 ftlb torque wrench and used a floor jack to turn the wrench. I also had to make a tool to keep the pinion from turning while I torqued the nut. Being camped in a machine shop parking lot sure helped. Do a Google search and you will find the procedure to change the seal.

Don't know why I didn't think of that. .duuh.....I tell everybody, Google is your friend.

I also found my vent line stopped up by dirt dobber so opened it up will see what happens before seal change.

Just a follow up when checking in to this after getting home from west trip I remembered someone saying about the vent line, well mine was clogged (dirt dobber ) cleared it and doesn't seem to be leaking on our current 500 mile trip. Will monitor.
