Doghouse Cover - insulation for sound and heat
Folks: I read a few places about insulating the doghouse cover. But, I cannot find any specific information on how to remove that cover. How does it come off? I was thinking about using some dynomat or other high-quality insulation for heat and noise throughout the rig. Any recommendations???
Thanks

I love the sound of my engine and especially the clutch fan, sounds like and airplane taking off. And it gives me that fuzzy feeling when the heat gage drops off. But the best part is I cant hear the Wife giving those directions!!!!

I used the Dynamat under my doghouse cover and it does help with heat and sound. I need to use a allen wrench to undo the latch in order to lift the doghouse. At the floor level, center of doghouse is a hole for the wrench, hidden by the carpet pile. Feel around, you might have the same.

F53 dog box insulation
In my 2008 Damon Daybreak the dog box is opened using the same skate key that opens the front engine hood.

Sorry Ed, don't remember exactly. I do remember it having a silver foil like backing with blue lettering, about 1/4" thick.

Pete:
Thanks. Did you install the dynamat between the interior carpet and the doghouse, or to the exterior of the doghouse underneath? If you installed it in the interior, was difficult the take up the carpet and relay it (I guess it is glued)?
thanks

Ed, I put the dynamat on the underside side of the doghouse. I wouldn't even try to take the carpet off the topside in fear of screwing that up royally. Underside mat works AOK.

Large allen wrench as provided by Winnie to remove the doghouse.
You put the mat between the doghouse and the engine to prevent the doghouse shell itself from getting hot. I used the kit that CampingWorld had on sale at the time at a greatly reduced price. Unless it is very quiet you can't hear the engine idling. Makes long drives on the Interstate far less tiring.
Pay attention to the location of the brackets and gaskets so you do not overlap them which will make sliding the doghouse back into place very difficult to impossible.

Thanks for the info. Did you have to clean the underside of the dog house?
I was wondering if you had a lot of grime on it.

Purple cleaner works well and then 100% isopropyl or film remover to finish the job.
