I have a 2003 Gulfstream Class C Ford E450HD V10 32 ft. I had a squealing noise in sync with the drive shaft. I had the center bearing replaced on the 3-piece drive shaft and the noise stopped, but I have a vibration at 40-53 mph. I was told that my drive shaft was out of balance, so I had the shaft balanced, and that didn't correct the problem. I was then told The back brakes were causing the problem. I had them rebuilt and the problem is still there. I told the RV center that I thought it had to be something to do with the replacement of the center bearing and they say that the bearing is good and installed properly. I'm out over $1000.00 and the problem isn't resolved. I believe in preventative maintenance and since I bought the unit new I have only had this RV shop service and do the work. Can anyone help, I'm about out of money.

Did you have the U-joints checked when they had the drive shaft out? A dry or worn u-joint might be the problem. Also, be sure they didn't change the shaft angle when they changed the center bearing - that can happen if they replace the bearing mount with a wrong / different style.
Are you getting any strange noises? That might indicate loose torque converter bolts, which could also cause vibration.

If you can get under the unit and see if all the X's are in a straight line from the front of the drive shaft to the rear of it X being the u joint itself.
They may very well feel since they put the center bearing in there was no way they would have gotten the joints out of alignment and see no reason why they should recheck it.

........ " I was told that my ", I believe the first thing I would do is not give these people anymore of your hard earned $$$$ to experiment with, they don't know what is wrong with it. Do you by chance have Goodyear tires ??? I just googled E450HD CLASS C DRIVELINE VIBRATION, and found some interesting stories, mostly all were corrected by changing out the tires which were egg shaped. A Ford dealer truck repair center found the problem. Go to the top of the page and type in the above as I did, and do Google search on IRV2 and let us know how it goes. Good luck, and save your $$$.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, they replaced 2 sets of U-joints. I do have Good Year tires 1 yr. old and the tire company checked the tires and then rotated them.

Thanks for the reply. When I took the drive shaft to be balanced they marked each section for the proper reinstall.

If you didnt have vibration before bearing change. drive lines are not timed. Could possible be separated belt but not likely.

I'm going on the assumption that the vibe is new, since having the center bearing replaced. Were the u-joints replaced by a competent shop? It is possible to damage a u-joint yoke when pressing out or installing a u-joint, thus causing a misalignment. Although unlikely, this might be worth considering. I think this should have shown up in the balance process, tho....
Take a look at the center bearing mount- did they use the original bearing mount? or a new, different style that might increase the driveshaft angle? Too great an angle can cause excessive vibration.
Another thought - does the vibration seem to be faster (driveshaft speed) or slower (wheel speed)?
I can say that balancing my MH driveshaft made a world of difference in the smooth operation of my drive train! It was definitely money well spent.

If there was NO vibration before and there is now, either a part has failed or is the wrong part or the technician has failed. I think it is time to visit another repair facility, since you have evidently gone back to this one without satisfaction. If once repaired, it is determined that the first shop has failed to do its due diligence hand them the bill. If they refuse it, take them to court or to arbitration. Enough is enough.
