Well, the V-10 does like its juice. It is hard to judge using the dash gauges. I recommend a ScanGauge II. (about $160.00) It plugs directly into the OBDII plug and provides data in digital format. One of the function is gauges and allows you to choose which functions to monitor. It does other things as well. I use the Tripminder function more than the fuel gauge.

Best of travels

One of the things I found with the gauges is that they are dumbed down. I had a cooling issue (The False Overheat TSB). Since day one my RV always felt a bit sluggish, and now I know why. When I got my Scan Gauge, it show water temps around 225 - 235. It goes into limp mode @ 240. Gauge read normal until it hit 235, then it spiked to the red, and overheated. Now with the cooling problem fixed, it rarely creeps above 205, and there is no difference in the gauge readings, but a huge difference in power and drivability. Richard gave you good advice, get the Scan Guage II. I love mine, and I know exactly what is going on direct from the ECM.

Good Luck,
Bill

It is called the False Overheat. Ford issued a TSB on this. Essentially the crossover tube from one side of the block to the other was too small, preventing the proper coolant flow. The fix was to replace this tube and thermostat. Big difference now. I had the repair performed under warranty.

The Scan Gauge II is a great investment. It plugs into the OBDII port, and you can place it anywhere that is convenient. YOu can transfer it from one car to another, and it reads and clears codes.

Bill, does Scan Gauge ll work on a 1997 460 engine ? I would like to monitor Trans.Temp, or either install a Temp gauge in the dash.
