Excessive engine noise in cabin
When transmission downshift, the noise level increases. Our unit has a Ford V-10, 365 HP. Any suggestions.

Is this something new, or has it been like this from new? Engine noise will naturally increase when RPM's increase, but if it's new maybe look at the motor mounts or exhaust system for leaks.

Glad to have you here in the forum with us.
If this is a new sound check the exhaust manifold and pipes. Can you describe the noise? Clicking, roaring etc.
Happy Trails!!!

Sound proofing the engine cover will help, a lot. Prior owner added the material so I don't know the details concerning material or installation procedures.
The V10 power is in a higher RPM range and the power train computers are programmed to downshift as needed to get the most out of the engine. But you have to keep in the back of your mind that the Ford chassis is used on multiple applications not just RV's so Ford programs for a balance of use across multiple applications.
Another option is to purchase a tuner such as what Banks or 5 Star sells which will change the shift pattern to keep the engine RPM a bit lower. What some of us are wondering about is why Ford programming skips 4th gear on both up and down shifts. A tuner will bring 4th back into the pattern along with holding the coach in O/D and 5th a little long before dropping into lower gears as needed.

Yep. 5 Star tuner helped immensely. That's a $400+ cure.
Extra sound barrier under the dog house would likely help, I didn't try that. Probably a lot less than $400.
Ultimately I cured the problem (and many others) by trading for a TT. Now I travel in the comfort of my daily driver. Cost me a bit more than $400...

Like Sweatbriar, I added noise / heat pad to my old Mirada, made a difference in noise and heat.
ALSO - I found several large openings in the firewall to cabin that was letting in a lot of cold air, and noise. I used spay expanding foam to plug these holes.

The best way to find these air leaks is to sit inside the MH on a very cold and windy day. (i.e. minus 10 degrees and wind blowing at 30 mph) You'll find the air leaks real fast.
I just found a big air leak on my New-to-Me Southwind.

I was able to quiet the sound, but not much, by insulating the dog house. I just used pink insulation and a foil insulation. There are insulation pads available and they might work better. You may find a insulation blanket to put over the engine but I was concerned about the engine heat so I did not do it. The engine makes its power with rpm so it is just loud.
I also found gaps around the dog house which I sealed. My ultimate solution was a DP.

Our cockpit is considerably quieter after installing the 5 Star Tune. The rig now downshifts from 5th to 4th rather than screaming down to 3rd gear. Obviously on a steep incline it will eventually go down to third and maybe second but these are predictable shifts in the mountains. We can now carry on normal level conversations in the cockpit.

Would also help a lot if we knew what brand/model/year you have.
% star tune will help with the 5 to 3rd gear downshift but doesn't really help with soundproofing.
My '16 Bounder was helped significantly with additional soundproofing (sealing all those open gaps on the firewall), doghouse soundproofing and 5 star tune. So significant in that I was going to sell my brand new unit to now I am comparing the sound levels to almost a DP. No cost for the work done by Fleetwood and minimal cost for the 5 Star Tune. CHF and an RSSA makes this handle super.
Very happy with the upgrades.

Yes a front engine gas unit is noisy when the engine is working hard. More insulation, and a 5 Star will help, but it'll still be somewhat noisy.
