The previous owner had the exhaust system modified on my 95 F53 chassis with the 460 engine and they did a poor job of it. It now has a blowing, hissing sound and seems to be partialy plugged. What I am wondering is if anyone has run a straight system from the resonator back and out in front of the rear wheels and if so how loud is it? I do not have a cat on it so all I have is the y pipe and then a round resonator then they ran the 3" pipe back to the rear muffler and reduced it down to 2.5 through the muffler and out the side with the bends reducing it down to about 2". I have poor high RPM performance and think it is restricting the exhaust flow too much. If anyone has tried just the resonator I want to know how loud it was and if not I may just pull it off and see. I would love to go to a Banks system but this motorhome is just a temporary RV for us for the next two years before we go full time and trade up so the expense would not be worth it.

My '95 has the Gibson system with the headers, to a resonator , then a large straight through muffler and 3" pipe all the way to the exit in front of the DS rear wheel.

Not having anything similar to compare it to I would say it isn't particularly loud. Of course, 2nd gear up hills at 3800 rpm are generally not quiet moments, yet it seems to keep pulling and works well for a 35 footer towing a Jeep.

The only time it's really loud is when I'm right next to the Jersey barrier and it reflects back at us. Otherwise, it's good stuff.

In your case it might make sense to get some good three inch replacement pipe and have it bent properly.

Thanks for the info. That is just what I did and it is working great. I went with 3" pipe straight from the resonator to just in front of the rear wheel and then turned it out with a
mandrel bend 90 degrees then out in front of the wheel. It sounds very healthy and is pulling like a 460 should.
