Exhaust system OR Tune?

I have about $1000 to spend on the MH for this years camping season. It has come down to installing a complete Thorley exhaust (headers and muffler) OR a Thorley muffler and a Brazel's or 5star tune. I have several questions. 1) Would getting a tune and muffler cause higher heat at the manifolds, which would cause problems with the dreaded V10 manifold bolts? 2) Is it worthwhile to just replace the muffler, or does the whole exhaust system need to be replaced (adding headers) to help the engine breathe. 3) Is the tune customized to your existing setup? If so, would it be in my best interests to replace the exhaust system this year and then do the tune next year?

I would call Jon at Brazels RV and discuss Ultrapower products with them or call Mike at 5 Star Tuning to speak with him about SCT products.

No middlemen means less time that you have to spend on research and just go for the better solution. I am sure they will walk you through your hardware investment strategy and make the correct recommendation for you.

I think that I am going to go with the headers and exhaust first. Then, once I have it breathing properly, possibly go with a tune from 5 Star or Brazel's later in the Summer or next year.

I think I would take a couple of minutes and make the calls like Driver suggested.

Honestly if your on a budget I would install a free flowing muffler and a tuned calibration. The calibration will correct the factory fueling strategies that actually cause higher temps and rob power and torque by its closed loop fuel operation at wide open throttle. Then maybe add the headers has they would complement the new tuned calibrations.
