I just bought a 2002 Winnie Adventurer. The Ford "window" sticker in my pile of paperwork said it was an F-550 chassis, yet all I see on the net related to the Ford V-10 chassis is the F-53. Are they one in the same? Came up while looking for shocks.

They are not the same. F-53 is also called striped chassis in some parts books. F-550 is not a motorhome chassis. Although they share many parts, shocks are not one of them.

My 02 came standard with Belstien shocks and they are still in good shape. Several others are available. I have found that to insure correct part numbers, check with a Ford Truck Center. Most Ford automobile dealers are not setup for motorhome chassis.

The window sticker for my '02 Itasca Suncruiser also says F-550.

Hmm... Mark at Shox.com said that they were the same. Capt. flipper, if the F-550 isn't a MH chassis, why is (was) Winnebago using it for a MH Chassis?

I need to crawl under my Adventurer to see what it has as far a shocks, sway bars etc. I need to fix my excessive side to side rocking.

I missed this thread with the same question. They claim they are the same. Chassis type

I have no hard proof, but I have been told by ford mechanics and others in the business they are one in the same. Some of Fords chassis info contain both labels for my 2006.Ever tried to order parts for a f-53? most of the time the part I need is listed f550, like my horn pad that I just had replaced.from what I see they share a parts list.Just my 2 cents!!

They are for the most part the same. The F-550 comes with a complete cab and a lot of suspension options depending on proposed use. The F-53 comes with components that can be utilized with a fabricated body. Somebody has to provide the dash, the seating, lighting, gas fill tube and etc., so those parts won't be F-550 parts.

That is a common problem on the F53 and most seem to have really good results with the Koni Shocks. The Bilsteins will help but on the Fords like yours and mine, early 2000's, they can make every expansion joint seem like a drop into the Grand Canyon and back out again.
