Update

Well I have it fixed. I eventually succumbed to the necessity of taking it to the Pros. My suspicions were correct, it was a continuity problem. Apparently at some point in the past, I had some rodent nibbling going on and they found 3 wires behind the PCM that had been nibbled through. The boys at Ford, patched and for the first time in a long time, no Service Engine Light. I'm not sure how they got in there to find it but they did. Talked to the service guy and said that it must have been a beootch to get in there to do the work and he said yes. I thanked him for the effort and he looked genuinely grateful that I had thought about what a tough job it must have been.

At any rate, the information and troubleshooting you all gave me here, went some distance to diagnosing the issue and it was even noted on the service sheet that the customer had suspicions about the continuity factor and that in the end was exactly what it was.

So for all your help and assistance.
