I just bought a 2007 Four Winds Windsport on a 2006 F-53 Ford chassis. The more I read on this forum, the more confused I become.

I have the V-10, but how much "stock" horsepower do I have? Do I have a 30 valve V-10? How can I find out for sure?

I used the vin decoder that I found in this forum.

https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenan...ls/default.asp

It verifies that my chassis was built in 2006 because the 10th position is a "6". What is confusing me is that the 8th position is a "Y". According to the printout my horsepower is 305. Does this have anything to do with California emissions? My motorhome was built in Indiana.
I was hoping that my V-10 has 362 horsepower like the 30 valve engines.

Another confusion is my steering wheel. Mine measures 17.5 inches. This forum indicated that this was the size for the new 2007 F-53 chassis. Did they put the new 17.5 on some 2006 chassis?

My GVWR is 18,000 pounds
My GCWR is 26,000 pounds
My wheelbase is 197 inches

I'm sorry for the long posting. My questions are simple:

How can I verify that I have the newer 3 valves per cylinder V-10?

How much horsepower do I have?

Thanks for your help in advance.

As I understand it, the new V10 comes only with the 5-speed torque shift transmission. It has a "tow/haul" button on the end of the shifter, instead of just an overdrive lockout.

Also, do you have 22.5" aluminum wheels?

I have the 5 speed with tow/haul mode and 19.5 inch wheels.

My shift lever has P-R-D-3-2-1. The D has the shaded O around it. Therefore, I believe it's the 5 speed. The tow, haul button is on the end of the shift lever.

I too went on the vin decoder web site it said I had 305 hp. I called ford customer service number and they said the web was wrong. It is the V10 30 valve.

Was your 2007 Bounder motorhome's F-53 chassis built in 2006, like my 2007 Wondsport's chassis was built in 2006?

Ok here is what you have if you are on the 06 chassis. Yes the website is not up to date. You had a V-10 3 valve engine that produces 365 hp. You have the 5 speed trans. In order to get the right information on your chassis at least for now you need to call the customer service number. They are very good about providing you with information. Ask them to send you the brocher on the F-53 06 chassis. Your dealer should also be able to provide it to you.

Hogwart,
Thanks for the assurances. Do you know of a sticker on the engine or behind the hood that verifies that this is the 30 valve, 365 HP engine?

I will go on line and find the Ford customer service phoen number.

BigRedLancer,

Thanks for the website. I've sent an email to Ford. Maybe they can verify the chassis and V-10 information that I'm seeking about my motorhome.

Thanks again,
Hrudey

I, too, was confused when the decoder showed our Bounder to have 305HP instead of the 362HP I thought it was supposed to have. When I called Ford customer service about their fleet site search result for my VIN, I was told that the decoder was not meant to be used for motorhome VIN numbers. Sure woulda been nice if there were some disclaimer on the webpage to warn me about that before I got all prematurely concerned I was shorted on HP.

My dealer provided me with an f-series super duty brochure. The customer service number is 800-444-3311. This same number is for their roadside assistance also.
