Please chime in since we're in the market and now have found out about the 6 speed and wondering if its worth the wait and the extra cost.
I had a 2011 f53 5 speed and now have a 2016 f53 6 speed. My new unit is about 2,000 pounds heavier. I am displeased because the tow haul feature on the 2016 does not work and others have made that observation. So far Ford is denying the problem. Having said that, my 2016 has much smoother shifting and better performance and fuel economy - at least 0.5 mpg.

I hope you get that resolved. My tow haul works. It is not as dramatic because of the extra gear but definitely works both going up and down and for stopping assistance in heavy traffic. To get the more severe reaction coming down a steep grade of the five speed you have to tap twice but we found it held well on a long 6% grade.

Ditto our unit has about same RPM @ 60 mph.
I see people posting 8 mpg but I only see 7 mpg when not towing.
We have traveled 24,000 miles in just over 2 years.
I wonder if the six speed will change these numbers at all.
It seems like it will just make little better use of the Power / RPM

Are they still available? I know someone who might want them.

We've traded a 2014 Bounder 35K in for a 2016 6 speed 35K. Just went past 2000 miles on the 16. Cruise rpm at 65 is 2100 that's 100rpm less than the 2014. Mileage towing is right at 7 mpg. Max RPM I have seen is 4100 and that is in maximum acceleration or climbing. 99% of the time the downshifts are to 3750 or 2500 depending on the circumstances. Tow Haul works great when going downhill tapping the brakes result in a downshift, it will downshift until the engine reaches a max RPM of around 4000. It pulls a lot better everywhere than the 5 speed did, downshifts less or holds the gear longer. The 5000 rpm wail caused by the 5 speeds 5th to 3rd downshift every time you hit an overpass at 65 mph is non existent. It is light years quieter than the 2014 5 speed. We have never had to raise our voices to talk to one another even while climbing. Very dramatic improvement overall.
Both Bounders are 22K chassis and 22.5 wheels.

It is interesting when I read these posts. I put the 5Star tune in mine and practically eliminated all of the above problems. I never use cruise control in hilly terrain and I can tow easily up grades in 4th gear and yes sometimes in 3rd gear still running at 55mph but I never run over 4500 rpm. As far as quiet goes, that depends on who makes the coach and how well insulated they are. My wife and I rarely even hear the engine while cruising and have never had the need to raise our voices to talk. Glad you are happy with your new 6 speed.

My 2014 had the 5 Star tune. It helped with the shifting, coach had a 4th gear after I installed the 5 Star. It also bypassed it as often as not. If you run 55mph you'll never see the 5000 rpm, at 65 mph we heard it a lot. The 5 Star did help but the level of improvement is way short of the way the 6 speed performs. I agree with that you said about sound proofing. The local Ford dealer took the doghouse cover off when working on a check engine light, I didn't see a lot of soundproofing when I looked at it but it was definitely engineered differently from the one on my 14 coach. I'm not advocating anyone trade for a 16 but at the moment when there are still 5 speed 15 chassis under 2016 coaches it's something anyone considering purchasing should be aware of.
btw I used the cruise control driving thru the mountains of TN and NC on I40 and I26 and it handled everything just fine. Tow haul mode on the down hills provided about 80% of the braking.

trading my 2016 in for a new 2016 6 speed
( Not really but still kinda funny) Al has good info on the new 6 speed bounder tho. I have put Dyna Mat Extreme on my dog house in my 2016 and it does help with heat and sound.
