F53 in tank fuel pump replacement

At 125,000 miles I am now faced with replacing the in tank fuel pump, again. Does anyone know the merits of leaving the old one in the tank and installing an inline pump.

You say again.
This tells me you may have rust (junk) in the tank and the sock may be plugged. This happens if the fuel tank was not cleaned when the other fuel pump was replaced.

So if the sock is plugged an in-line fuel pump can not work.
Also the odds are an inline fuel pump may not work at all unless you are going down hill.
The in-line fuel pump would have to have a very good lift (suction when dry) and it would also have to pump at least 45psi so the fuel pump regulator can maintain 39psi across the fuel injectors at all times.

So no I do not think it would work well. I have tried putting one between the generators fuel line and the fuel line to the engine and it has not worked out very well.

You don't give a lot of info? Year fuel injected or throttle body? The previous fellow that answered your question is quite correct. However if your unit is older and has a carburetor or throttle body you may have other options.

The OP give all the information necessary. All F53s from inception until present are port injected.
