F53 serpentine belt average lifespan?
Have purchased a replacement V-Belt for our RV with 42,000+ miles just in case. Do I need to replace now?

I was told by the auto techs at the company I retired from that when a belt gets a certain number of cracks in the belt in 1 inch it recommended to change the belt. I think it was 12 cracks in 1 inch but not positive. Having said that, at 42k miles, I'd change it anyway.

I see it is a 2004. That means ten years. Age does more to rubber than miles. Most experts I have asked say ten years max on rubber products.

Hugh,
The serpentine belt on our 2008 National RV Sea Breeze broke on a Saturday afternoon about 10 days ago. Our MH had only 16,900 miles on at the time. We were on a freeway about 10 miles outside of a mid-sized town. When the belt broke, I lost power steering and brakes, the alternator and the water pump. We were DIW and had to be towed about 15 miles to an RV dealer - tow cost $600 (I have AAA RV Plus, but they couldn't provide a tow so I had to pay that subject to reimbursement); repair was $180, and time lost 3 days. All in all, I recommend you change it now!
Alan.

I would replace the belt with a new one and keep the old one as a spare.

My chassis manual for my 2011 F53 says to replace the belt every150000 miles. Seems like a long time to me. I may just buy a spare and keep it in the MH as a spare. It is rather easy to replace if you have done it before.

Mine started making noise about 10 years and about 30k miles. I would suggest to change your preemptively.

Thanx for the sound advice folks. I'll have someone who knows what he's doing change the V-belt when the new one gets here.

I had to pull my belt when I replaced a leaking power steering pump. Took me longer to find my drop light and extension cord then to get the belt on/off. Easy job.

Some of you have it easy. I can't see my belt from the front or the top. Only place to see it is the bottom and I don't know how you would even loop the belt over the top pulleys.

Sounds like the motorhomes that I jacked up the front and removed both front tires, threw a carpet reminate over the wheel hub and laid across the hub and took it easy.

As some have said, I would be more worried about the years instead of the miles. When in doubt, swap it out...
