This darned thing has a 6 pin BLADE connector...
How odd.

I'm replacing it with a 6 pin round, plus trying to figfure out what all is there, and if I have 12volts to keep my toad battery charged.

I have the brown, yellow, and green, and they are tail lights, and left and right turn as they should be.

I also have a black and a red.
BOTH seem to be grounded.

I'll guess the black should be ground (wire color supposed to be white.) but what is the red wire supposed to be?

and just cause I know someone will ask...

The chassis owners manual (ford) says nothing about the trailer connector wiring.
It does show perhaps 8 different fuses in 2 possible places that might or might not go back there, and indicates that fused circuits exist (and may or may not be used ) for the coach builder to run power for a brake controller and/or 12v to the trailer connector.

The fleetwood manual shows a 4 pin round connector... (NOT!!!)

moving right along. I've declared the black ground and wired it up with a new 6 pin round connector. Red "must be" 12 volts so it went to the center terminal.

When I plug it into my jeep, the jeep's lights light up. Barely.

I only have 9 volts. Coach is running and charging at 14.1.
Measured with the jeep unhooked no change.
Grounded meter to the trailer hitch no change.

So...
why is my voltage low back there?
and why isn't there 12v on my 12 volt wire?

Maybe this can help. According to this site black is not ground white is. There is so much on this site.
Go to: chassis wiring diagrams for more info.

Wire your connector according to the chassis of your Motorhome. Also I didn't see a 6 pin flat on that site, I saw a 5 flat and a 6 pin boxed connector.
Is it possible the old one is a 5 pin?? I would wire the new connector as it says here, the toad should already be right up to the plug.

THERE IS NO BLACK WIRE ON THE COACH MOUNTED CONNECTOR. That was my qusestion... what's ground if there is no white?

The toad lights do all work, but very dim.

From any of the 3 lighting wires, I only have 9 volts, regardless of where I stick the ground probe of the meter.

Also, I'd really really like to hook up a power wire to keep the battery charged on the toad, but niether of my "spare wires" has power...
Any idea why or where I could find some?

I don't believe Ford supplies any type of trailer socket on the stripped chassis. Ford runs all the wires to the back of the original frame rail and tapes them off in the wiring harness. The coach builder extends the wirng harness (if they extend the frame rails) then terminates them with a socket of their choice on the back of the body.

Although ours came from the factory with a 6 pin socket Winnebago chose not to connect the wire for the electric brakes. What should have been a 15 minute brake controller installation was extended to about an hour because I had to find and connect the last wire.

If you're not the first owner of the motorhome it's quite likely someone customized the wiring for a specific trailer or toad.

I can email the Ford wiring diagrams for the trailer wiring if you like.
Just email me at subford"AT"gmail.com.

It is like Hikerdogs said above is the way Ford left it.
The F53 did not have a trailer battery charge relay like the PU trucks did.
