F53 U Bolt Torque
Hi everyone,
Looking for the front and rear axle springs u bolt torque for my 99 F53 18,000# chassis. Have searched the forum and net, no luck. Have found the recommended torque table for various size u bolt, would rather have the Ford spec though.
Thanks,
Chuck

Had an alignment done on my Dolphin F53, a couple of weeks before trading it in .
Shop told me to get the U-bolts re-torqued within a week to 250- 275 ftlbs.

That's higher then I thought it would for the front. The charts I have found only show 177 ft lb for 5/8" grade 8. Was yours an early F53?
Thanks,
Chuck

1999 chassis. The tech acctually started at 300lbs then talked his way down to 250ftlbs, with a brief stop at 275ftlbs !
Mabe you should hold out for official Ford specs.

Thank you Bill.

Those U-bolts had a high torque. I used a real long 1/2 wrench and I think it was about maxed out. BTW, mine were not near torque when I started. Lousy shop job.

Yeah, I have a long 1/2" that goes to 250, I'll have to break out my 3/4" drive that goes to 500.

Thanks for this discussion. I have a 2003 Newmar on a 2002 F53 chassis. I'm removing two ubolt nuts to mount a plate for a steering stabilizer. I was wondering what to retorque them to. Thanks. I'll aim for 250 ft lbs.

FWIW, Roadmaster's rear sway bar for my 2019 22,000 chassis says to torque the spring U-bolt nuts to 300 ft lbs so 250-300 is in that ballpark.

Been there, done that recently. I bought a used 3/4" drive torque wrench just for that job, then was afraid to pull that hard on it. (250 ft lbs) I took the wrench and my rig up to my chassis mechanic and asked him to do the pull himself. $10.00 later I was satisfied that my used wrench worked and that the torque was right.
P.S. Love the steering stabilizer! And also the Sumo Shocks, if you're also going that route.
