First oil change
I'm sorry if this has been answered, but danged if I can find it.
We have a new F53 chassis Class A that had 900 miles on it when we got it, and it has 1500 on it now. I've always been in the habit of doing the first oil change at 1000 mile or so, but with modern engines I'm thinking I'm being a bit ... well ... anal
The owner manual that I found online just says change it every 7500 miles or six months, but it doesn't mention the first one. We've got a 2000 mile trip coming up, then home, then a 6000 mile trip. I'm inclined to change it before the 6000 mile trip and be happy.
What do you folks do?
Thx ...

First oil change
Change the oil. I have that same philosophy for every new vehicle bought. Never been wrong on the decision.

you can never change the engine oil too frequently. i have the oil & filter changed every 5K miles or twice a year, whichever comes first.

I have no problem going 7500 miles or 6 months; this thing will be on the highway with virtually no stop and go. And the six months will usually come before the 7500 miles. It does sort of hurt my feelings, though, going too long without getting the "break in" oil out of it.
OK. You guys win. If it'll stop raining today I'll go slide under it and change the oil. It'll give me peace of mind, and these things are only new once.

I would change it when you get home, then you will have 3500 on it. You will go too long if you wait for the 6000 mile trip. Just one man's opinion. I don't like to waste oil so I usually follow the manufacturer's recommendations. Especially if it is under warranty.

Engines built today have different tolerances than when the recommendation came out to change the engine oil after the first 1000 miles or so.
The reasons for changing the oil were due to possible contaminates making it into the oil early after manufacturing and installation.
I can't recall any new car needing that early oil change in quite a while. Following the manual is what I would recommend.
You certainly can do it and it does no harm. Some will say it is simply a waste of time and money.
You decide

I try to stay at 5000 miles for oil changes. The numbers are easy to remember and if I'm on that 6000 mile trip I know that I'm still inside of that 7500 interval.
I would change the oil right before the long trip so that I know who did the change and not have to worry about it on the road.

I use pure synthetic and go 7500 miles. I would change on the road when due.

I'm an Amsoil user and don't mind going the 7500 between changes. I don't want to have to change on the road and will change before I leave. If we go over 7500 on that trip, so be it. I'll change it when we get back.
Thanks for all the input. I'm still in the camp of "it won't hurt anything", but I also know if I change it now I'll be changing it very early for the longer trip later.
I guess I just need to drive it more

I was wondering why it was a concern, changing 7 quarts of oil.
I see that your using the expensive stuff. Put regular oil in this time and go with the other stuff, next time.

Any new motor be it aircraft, diesel, or gas I changed the oil very early just to eliminate anything in the build process. A very few dollars and with the newer builds maybe unnecessary but it makes me feel good.

It's not the cost that's holding me back; it's the effort of doing it. I've got the oil and filter in my shop; I'm just questioning the necessity.
I mentioned being anal in my opening post, but I don't even use "regular oil" in my lawn mower.

Gotta feel good Seriously, I'll feel better doing it even though I doubt it's necessary. That engine will probably outlive me, no matter what I do or what kind of products I use.

It does say 7500 miles or six months, whichever comes first. It also says rotate the tires at the same time
Off topic, sort of:
I found it a little odd that the owner manual for our Class C, on an E450 chassis with the 6.8 liter V10, said change the oil every 4000 miles or six months. I am guessing that's because that chassis is intended for delivery vans which sit a lot and do a lot of stop and go driving. The F53, on the other hand, will do more highway.
