not sure if I am in right section. Has any owners of the 460 engine had installed a throttle body spacer? I was told it could increase mpg. I modified the exhaust and picked up .6 mpg.

The 460 is a torque monster but needs all the help it can get re fuel mileage. How do you measure .6 mpg? Did you exactly duplicate the test conditions?

That depends.. a spacer increases the plenum volume which could make more power, usually on the top end. Works on both FI and carb. There are also 'spread bore' spacers that can help the air/fuel mix on carb applications..

Is yours a FI or carb motor?

I too have a 460 and I'm interested in knowing what exhaust mods you made to pick up over half a mpg?

The milage was determined by duplicating route and habits as much as possible. (cruise, egg shell starts, etc) This was done three times as I was pleased going from 6.7 to 7.3. Also a noticably bit of power on bridges and hills. The Modification consisted of replacing the factory muffler, which had 3'' Going in and two small out rear, with a turbo and maintaing 3" all the way. No noise difference inside. It is FI.

If your FI, I wouldnt really expect a difference.. you would be increasing the plenum volume, but that doesnt seem to do much at all for FI engines, especially on the low rpm end.

Thanks Midniteoy. Looks like you know. I am now checking into chip found on this site. Also to RoyM there were tenths differences of 2-3 tenths. 6 was the average of three tests.
