I live on a swaying paved semi-rough country road. My 04 F53 chassis with 63K miles knocked/cluncked over many rough spots especially in turns.
So I took my large combo wrenches and 1/2" drive sockets using a breaker bar and tighten every bolt I could reach or get a wrench on underneath.
I found several bolts a 1/4 turn loose especially the leaf spring support brackets attached to the frame. Only took 3/4 hour to do.
Next trip out only one small knock/clunk.
My sway bar bushings are good.

Mine is doing that from the rear springs. I am going to try the same thing to see if I can find anything. Thanks for your post.

I would highly recommend go buy a good 1/2 drive torque wrench. I know that my spring shackle nuts were all too loose. The service place used a air gun but it wasn't enough. I think they have a torque of around 300lb or something like that.

Our 02 Georgetown has a similar noise, directly beneath the driver's foot-pedal area. I seems worst when we're rocking side to side on rough country roads.

I saw a post last season that referred to a Ford Service Bulletin that reduced the problem with the installation of some support brackets that were not installed in production. During the off-season, I'm going to explore that some more with our nearest Ford Truck store.

It's an annoyance rather than a show stopper. Let's face it, the F53 is an 11-ton truck with a very rudimentary suspension system that dates back to the horse and cart. A Rolls Royce it ain't. and I can live with the ride quality for the 4000 miles or so we do in a year. I'm certainly not going to get into expenditure of several thousand dollars to try to make a silk purse out of a pig's ear!

My 2007 Wind Sport had a clunk under the driver's feet which turned out to be the linkage on the sway bar. It didn't seem very loose but when I tightened it the clunk went away. I don't know what the torque on that nut needs to be but it must be very tight on mine to eliminate the noise. The bushing appeared to be OK.
