Frankie, If you can't get the specs from a heavy duty Ford repair shop, could you start out with a low setting on the torque wrench when starting to remove the bolt then work up to the torque setting where it begins to move?

Would that give you a reasonably accurate torque value for re-tightening the bolt?

Just a thought,

Jim

The 2003 service manual shows 260 ft-lbs. (Yup 260 ft-lbs or 352 N-M, that's not a typo.)

The breakaway torque (the torque needed to loosten a nut or bolt) isn't a good measure of the torque needed to tighten it.

A better thing to do is to mark where the fastener is, loosen it, then measure the torque required to tighten it to the mark. Still not as good as the proper torque, but a better indicator.

I wasn't sure about my idea, it was just a thought. I was sure someone would be able to provide accurate information.

Thanks Tim, Jim

I just learned about the loosten/tighten process in the last year myself. GM uses it for engine teardowns, breakaway torques just weren't telling the right story.
