Fuel Mileage
We upgraded from a 2006 Bounder 32W to a 2012 Holiday Rambler Vacationer 36SBT today with a Ford V10. I could get around 8 mpg from the 8.1L Chevy in the Bounder if I stayed below 70 mph. Can I expect the same out of the Ford?

We can count on 8mpg in our 2014 Newmar Canyon Star 3610, which is similar in size and weight. The best we have gotten is 10, flat terrain/little downhill with a tailwind, and the worst has been 6.5, driving the grades to get out of town. I usually drive at 60-62 mph as that is where I get my best gas mileage.

I've averaged 8 mpg on every motor home that I've owned in the last 15 yrs. Before that I averaged less than 7. I've owned them all. Ford, Chevy, Cat, Cummins.

Something just dawned on me. There have been numerous threads about gas mileage on this forum. I notice a lot of people get low mileage and I seem to get somewhat better mileage.
The reason US v/s Canadian (Imperial Gallon).

It can fluctuate. Before Ethanol I used to get about 10 or 11 MP US Gallon from my V10 now I get around 8 like everyone else. Up to 10 percent Ethanol allows for some variation and you may be among the fortunate that are getting less than 5 percent where you normally travel. The last Ethanol Free service station closed up around here some years ago and fuel economy dropped in every gasoline powered vehicle I own since they pushed a statewide mandate on the stuff.
Thankfully my old diesel power Fiat Spyder gets about 40 or so in the city and 50 or so on the highway which helps defray the overall weekly family fuel costs to allow a bigger share to go to the motor home.

Well, you can expecet 20 mpg, but you won't get it!
With our '98 Santara with 460 I could depend on 5.5 to 6.5. With the two DP Dutch Stars (300 CAT and 350 Cummins ISC) I could depend on 7 to 8. With the Magna I can depend on at least 7.1 and up and that's feeding a 650 HP ISX (or at least till it breaks down). That 7.1 includes the Grapevine, Tehacapi and sitting in traffic stopped for an hour or so. The Magna weighs 46,000#'s unloaded

The mileage I posted previously includes towing a Jeep so I probably would get another mile per gallon without the jeep.

I average about 8.2. two other factors besides winds and speed,
Mileage will get a little better at high elevations,i.e.Wyoming.
Mileage will suffer a little with ethanol.

I have friends with V10's in F250's who can't get 10 MPG.
Just jealous cause I'm begging to get a solid 7 in our new rig.

Average 7.2 mpg towing a Jeep Wrangler, and that is lower than actual given some fuel is used by the diesel generator and the AquaHot. I was running 6.8 mpg but started using a fuel additive of which pays for itself through the increase in mpg.
